The T-1 Today UK Diabetes Together conference is a gathering of world-renowned clinicians, researchers, physicians, adults, children and families living with Type 1 Diabetes. It offers many opportunities to gather information on the latest in diabetes care and is especially beneficial for those who are newly diagnosed. We believe it is important that this educational opportunity is open to as many people as possible no matter what their financial situation.   Thanks to donations, we are able to offer a number of financial scholarships to those who otherwise could not afford to attend this conference.

If successful, we ask applicants for a single payment of £50 which is refundable after the conference on completion of an evaluation.

Addressing financial hardship

It is important to stress that this scholarship programme is intended to assist those who are experiencing genuine financial hardship, it is not intended to reduce the cost of attending for those who can afford it. To that end all applications are assessed primarily on financial criteria and we ask people to respect this.

Who is Eligible?

• Applicants must live in the UK
• Applicants cannot have previously attended a live in-person T-1 Today UK / FFL conference (virtual 2020/2021 conference excluded)

• Families with at least one child who has Type 1 diabetes, age infant to 17. Other children must be part of the same household family unit. Maximum 4 people per application. Costs for additional family members payable at full price.

• Young adults (18 - 25) with Type 1 diabetes, single or with a partner (18+). Maximum 2 people per application.

Criteria:

1. Financial need - this is the primary criteria.
2. Commitment to learning more about Type 1 diabetes and improving self-care.
3. Interest in meeting like-minded people at the conference and sharing experiences.

What is Covered?

Each scholarship will cover the following, per applicant group:

• Conference registration, which includes all sessions and session materials for adults and children throughout
• Three nights hotel stay – dinner, bed and breakfast
• Childcare for children age 3 and under
• All meals & snacks
• Focus groups
• Family event Saturday evening
• Off-site day for teens (if this is part of the Youth Programme)
• One t-shirt per registered person
• One printed programme per applicant group

What is not Covered?

The following items will not be covered under the scholarship:

• Transportation to and from the conference; applicants must make their own arrangements
• Meals not outlined above, or any drinks. 
• Incidental charges (i.e., phone, room service, etc) incurred during the stay. Each applicant will be required to provide the hotel with a credit card for any incidental charges. At check-out you will have to pay any incidental charges directly to the hotel.
• Expenses for extended family members and/or friends.

At the conference:

All scholarship recipients are expected to attend a full complement of educational sessions and other events held during the T1 Today conference. Each recipient will be asked to complete a brief written evaluation of the conference and the scholarship programme at the conclusion of the conference. After this is received, the £50 payment will be refunded.

Application process:

• Please complete the online application below by 30th June 2025. Applicants will be notified via e-mail when their application is received.
• Applicants will give permission for T-1 Today UK to contact their diabetes team to discuss their application, in confidence.
• Successful applicants awarded a scholarship will be notified by shortly after applications close via e-mail, at which point the £50 payment becomes payable.
• Scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the conference organisers to cover conference costs and hotel reservations. No monetary awards will be made.
• The names of all applicants will be kept confidential and other attendees will not be aware of those who have been awarded scholarships, unless they choose to share that information.
• The trustees’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into with unsuccessful applicants.
• The trustees reserve the right to award additional scholarships, after the deadline and notification dates, if funds become available.
