Have a question?

Check out these FAQs or just ask us!

Here are some of the FAQs we get.

  • Can siblings come too?

Yes, siblings should come too and join in the activities. They will learn more about what it’s like living with T1D, but also have the chance to speak up about being the non-diabetic sibling. This is a whole family event.

  • Do you group the children by age?

We go by your child’s age at the date of the conference. For insurance purposes we have to keep to these age groups.

    • Teens: ages 13-17
    • Tweens: ages 10-12
    • Elementary: ages 6-9
    • Childcare: ages 0-5
  • My child is coeliac, can the venue accommodate that?

Absolutely, we have many people with coeliac and other food requirements. There is a separate servery for the gluten free foods to avoid cross-contamination.

  • What about carb counting meals?

All the food provided during the conference is carb counted in advance, per portion, and everything is labelled to help you enjoy your meals without worrying.

  • Won’t my teenagers be bored?

In a word, no! Teen sessions involve activities aimed at their age group, discussions on a variety of topics, the chance to question the experts and have their say, plus an off-site trip on the Saturday. Most parents don’t see much of their teens during the weekend!

  • Can grandparents come too?

Yes, grandparents are welcome, they have the opportunity to ask those hard questions and hear first-hand from the experts, as well as meeting other families like theirs.

  • The start/end of the conference falls on a school day, what should we do?

Half term is different all over the UK so sometimes the conference falls on school days. Most of our families consider this annual event as very important in their child’s life and request to take their child out of school for a day. Many schools will register this as educational; you are advised to show the conference programme to your school to help with this. Obviously whether you do so is entirely up to you.

  • What do we do between sessions?

Between sessions, mid morning and late afternoon there is free time during which there are healthy snacks, tea and coffee. Over lunch and in the evenings, you can make the most of being around other people living with T1D and their families and socialise as you choose.

You are also encouraged to visit the Exhibition Hall where  you can find the Sponsors and Exhibitors' stands.
